So, remember the self portrait project? (of course you do, I haven't posted anything sense) Well, it exhibited last month, here are a few photos from the opening! Can you find me!?

So. Awesome.

self portrait

Since I clearly can't stray from my procrastinating tendencies, here's another one for you.

I realized today that this project for the Art House Co-op has to be postmarked by tomorrow. So, naturally around 8:30pm I decide I should probably dig out my paints and get started...

This is another project for the Art House Co-op called The Self Portrait Project. The project will bring together the many faces of the Art House community in the storefront gallery space in Brooklyn, NY. Each artist receives an empty 4"x4" canvas with the same mission: Show us who you are.

So, I sat down with this mission and after 2 hours, this was the result.

It was such a small canvas to work with and I have to admit I was dreading this a bit, but I'm fairly pleased with the result. Although - this is one piece that I'm not sad to send off. I don't really need paintings of myself laying around the house.

Cheers.

letters to home submission

I mailed in my submission for Letters to Home. There wasn't room for a huge letter because it had to be 5x7in and hand written. I could have said so much more.

So, a funny memory that surfaced during this exercise: I remember when the Gerwatowski cousins would come to visit in the summer for (a week? I had no concept of time back then) and Nicole and Maureen would take my mom and dads bikes with the kid seats on them and go for a ride on the "whee hills" down the road. I can remember being strapped into the seat on the back with Maureen "driving" and being PETRIFIED (omg, yes, great, that was fun, just get me the heck off this thing) :) Am i totally making this memory up in my head? It seems crazy that I would be small enough to ride in the kid seat while Maureen was big enough to take me...

I could spend hours writing down all the memories I had here. And you know, I probably should. One day I may no longer be able to call them up.

letters to home

so...
I've signed up for a handful of new projects with the Art House Co-Op. I love them.

Tonight I started working on this one:

"Letters to Home is an exhibition created by hundreds of strangers from around the world. Each participant contributes a single letter addressed to a childhood home, reanimating these structures from the past and filling them in on our current lives. The resulting exhibition will transform the Brooklyn Art Library by covering the walls in handwritten memories — each page addressed to a different home. After the Brooklyn opening, every letter contributed to the project will be put together in an Anthology of Letters to Home and exhibited across the globe as part of the 2012 Sketchbook Project World Tour."

Awesome, right? So, tonight I sat down and drew my childhood home.
500 Forest Hill Rd. Such a beauty.

I drew this in ink, a medium I almost never use, but it turned out pretty great! The ink just seemed to fit.  I think all of this architecture experience has served a purpose. I felt (surprisingly) totally in my element drawing this. I chose ink because I will be writing my letter on this page in the space above and around the drawing, and wanted to do it all in the same medium. I have to give credit to Google Earth for doing street views...although the image was totally blurry, it helped me to get the basic structure...and I went from there. Now I just have to figure out what to say...I'll post the letter later this week!
Postmark date: 03-15

Stay tuned. There will be much more to come!
